Modern Friends, I am still alive and feeling a bit better since my most recent post. I'm just spectacularly busy right now trying to get ready for my NYC trip.
So, speaking of NYC, I've only been there once in my life and that was six years ago with my parents. This time I'll be on my own for the most part. I'm working at our company's headquarters and will be working some ridiculous hours, and when I say ridiculous, I mean something along the lines of 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Fortunately, I have some fabulous co-workers who will be there (many of whom I've never met in person), so I'll have people to hit the town with at 2:01 a.m. But it does mean I'll have some free time to explore the city on my own while everyone else I know there is at their normal 9-5 type jobs.
When I visited six years ago, I hit up most of the touristy things to do. This time, I want to do the non-touristy things which means I need suggestions of any of you who know NYC better than I. Where should the company buy my lunches and where should I blow three months worth of my shopping budget?
Also, any of you northeast bloggers, I'd love to meet up with you for lunch/brunch on Saturday or Sunday if you're around. Let me know!

It's been more than a decade since I was last in NYC, so I don't have any advice for you. But I do hope you have a great time!
I think you should take a road trip to Boston once you're free. You'd love it up here!
yes omg lunch/brunch sunday! (saturday we're heading up to my inlaws wamp wamp) or friday! whenever works for you. Email me :) I'll take the train in. It'll be fabulous.
i've never been there but i need to know someone who has - what better person than you my dear: magnolia bakery
Just sent you an e-mail with some picks, and a walking route I suggested happens to go right by the Magnolia Bakery, mentioned above by Angie. It was not there when I was but it sounds delish!
If you want to send me an email of where in town you're going to be, I can give you some suggestions.
Sadly, I'll be really close to where you are this weekend, but not able to visit, I have a swim event on Saturday, and going car shopping with my dad on Sunday...
I grew up (partially) less than three hours from New York, but I've never been. Have fun!
NYC sounds like fun! Are you going there for BlogHer this year? Ugh I need a weekend away :)
if you've got some time, check out the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
I was just in NYC for 20 hours back in September. I needed to be there longer for sure!
I'm not sure if this is your schtick or not, but there is a Tim Burton exhibit at MoMa. I've been dying to get down there and check it out, but busy busy busy.
