I'm in a mood to talk about some BravoTV. Who's in?
Project Runway
Did everyone remember to tune into the Project Runway season five premier last night? If you forgot, you may not want to read this post. I won't outright spoil anything, considering this was the first challenge and I'm not even going to try to connect the outfits with the names of the designers, but I'm still going to talk about what happened.
But first, I have a few questions and I'm interested in what you think.
- How much pre-PR success is too much success to be a contestant? I understand that no one who competes on PR has the kind of name recognition that Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren has, but it seems like the last two seasons have had contestants that are already well on their way to being a big name. Famous people were already wearing Rami's designs before he made it to Fashion Week, but maybe the judges considered that in not naming him winner last season? Many of this season's contestants seem to already have their own lines or boutiques. I know it's all about the exposure, but is it fair?
- Are this season's designers idiots? I clucked as half of them went straight to the tableclothes. They've all obviously watched this show before, so they should have known that they would get taken to task for taking the easy way out. They even had Austin Scarlett there as a reminder to try something original. Hello, corn husks! DON'T BORE NINA! Slackers, indeed.
- Will ever PR season from here to eternity have someone trying to be exactly like a former contestant? We've already got our Christian wannabe. A Tim Gunn imitator? Sorry, I think Santino has that market cornered.
That said, how awesome was the winning outfit? The top half didn't exactly do it for me (were those coffee filters?), but the skirt and studded waist line: amazing and creative. I love the dye job and would wear that skirt any day of the week and twice on Sundays. The cup dress was stunning as well. I loved the fact that he used the lip of the cups as piping.
Girlicious needed to go. Sure, the showercurtain rain coat was horrible, but I didn't even know what Christian wannabe was sending down the runway.
Anyway, I wait to start passing true judgment on the contestants until I get to know them a bit better.Shear Genius
I spent the whole morning recovering from my Boot Camp workout (more on that later) by watching Shear Genius. I'd never watched it before, but it's not horrible. It's not as exciting as PR or Top Chef, but it's a good way to waste time. Plus Jaclyn Smith is kind of scary, even when she's dishing out praise.
I, of course, loved the Real Housewives episode. Having the advance knowledge of each housewife/daughter's personality made for some extra drama. I mean, who in their right mind would want Vicki? I'm surprised she didn't take the scissors out of dude's hand and start showing him how to do it.
My Life on the D-List
My friend KG and I have this secret (well, not soooo secret) dream of becoming members of Team Griffin. We've been plotting ways of how to achieve this goal, but none have panned out yet. We'd probably settle for just meeting Kathy (because if she met us, she'd totally want to hire us).
I was completely impressed by the couple who whored out their wedding to Kathy for D-List. Genius! Those people completely outsmarted KG and I. Granted we have no weddings to be making whores of, but they were completely thinking outside the box. They have inspired me to kick the meet-Kathy Griffin efforts up a notch.
Not to mention I totally learned a new concept: bears! Love it! Want my own bear.
Date My Ex
Don't know that I'm going to watch Date My Ex. Is anyone planning to? I loved having Jo on Real Housewives, even though she drove me absolutely crazy at times. She was necessary to the show's drama, and I think the Orange County franchise of Real Housewives completely fell apart without her last season.
But, I am an anti-Slade fan and I feel like this show is one publicity stunt too many. Am I wrong?
Flipping Out
Sorry, Modern Friends, but I have a hard time watching this Flipping Out so I just don't. I absolutely want to choke Jeff and I generally watch TV as an unwinding method. I don't need a show that inspires violence within. I have baseball for that. Feel free to discuss the show in the comments below.

Sadly, or maybe not, I don't watch any of these shows! Maybe I'll have to check a few out.
I didn't even know the new season of "Project Runway" had started until this morning. Amazingly (or not) my 14 yr old daughter loves this show.
I personally get a big kick out of Kathy Griffin. Oh, to be as outspoken and thick-skinned as she is! Watching her is almost guaranteed to make me laugh.
I haven't heard of the others but will have to check out "Shear Genius" as it sounds like something that my daughters & I would enjoy. (The poor son is stuck in such an estrogen-laden household.)
Not surprisingly, I've thought about this many times. I feel like designers with established lines shouldn't be banished, because it doesn't necessarily make them a) more skilled or b) less deserving of the prize. Like sure, Rami was outfitting Jessica Alba before, but now, he's got a whole FLEET of starletts! Everyone could use an improvement in their game, ya know? And in the end, it's not like he had an advantage, because he was totally out-fierced by a 22 year old fashion student. And last night, Jerry, who was arguably the most established of the contenstants from this season (according to him!) was the first to be auf'd. I mean, when it comes to the runway, it's an even playing field, really. You can either make a tube top out of a dodge ball, or you can't, and no amount of merchandising experience prepares you for that...
I'm hoping they will pull out lots of great stuff for PR this year, to show that Bravo does it better. I really loved that skirt and push pin situation too. But I miss Sweet P!
I made sure not to record the Housewives day on Shear Genius. The last thing I need is to sucked into that show. I couldn't believe it got a second season but it has to be about the cheapest show to do ever.
We could definitely take over for Jessica and Tiffany. I'd even be the assistant's assistant. I know, I'm a giver. We would not make it one day in Jeff's house though. I'd turn around all the products in the fridge so the labels weren't showing and get fired right away.
I will watch the first episode of Date My Ex and see what the haps is. It is a pretty ridiculous show concept and I only entertain it because it's Jo.
I dont get Bravo and this post is causing me to call my SHITTY cable company and bitch them out for the 273483 time this year.
