At the risk of sounding preachy, the Modern Gal wants to remind you that it's the responsibility of modern gals (and guys) everywhere to help others, regardless of their status in life. And because 'tis the season, 'tis time y'all start thinking about giving to a good cause, maybe in addition to your regular gift giving routine or even in place of.
This Modern Gal has a few of her own favorite causes, but sometimes it is hard to pick from so many organizations in need of support. Charity Navigator is a great place to go to find charities by the type of cause you support and research how they spend their money.
And since you've dropped by to visit The Modern Gal, I ask you to take 30 seconds after you're done to visit one of the easiest causes in the world: The Hunger Site. All you have to do is click on their button to encourage sponsors to donate food for those in need. The Hunger Site also has a number of other sister pages: The Breast Cancer Site, The Child Health Site, The Literacy Site, The Rainforest Site and The Animal Rescue Site.

Also, don't forget FreeRice -- It's great, and also kind of geeky fun.
That is so fun! I hadn't seen it before. I'll add it to my list of links
i was using freerice to study for the GRE, and then my work blocked it because it was "gambling." uncool.
I think my half-assed attempt to study for the GRE a few years back was indeed helping me give more rice to the poor last night. Your work ought to be ashamed of themselves.
